PRESSINGS by South West Printmakers

Opening 2pm, Sunday 28th November 2010

~ NEW ~ Demonstration of woodblock carving and printing
11.00am to 3.00pm, Sunday 6 February 2011

Exhibition dates: 28th November 2010 - 6th February 2011
The South West Printmakers are a diverse group of individual artists, who have been brought together by a passion for printmaking. Most of the group came to know each other through working and studying visual arts together at TAFE and Edith Cowan in Bunbury. The group was formed in late 2005 and began exhibiting together a year later. Their first exhibition was to display their Print share* at Bunbury Regional Art Galleries in 2006 and they have exhibited there annually ever since. The 2010 exhibition 'New Impressions' runs concurrently with 'Pressings' at Mountford Gallery.

The artists participating in this exhibition, 'Pressings' are: Sussann Chard, Robyn Clancy, Sue Dennis, Chris Freind, Denise Gillies, Helen Hulme, Zita Klaphake, Anne Marie Lapinski and Sandra Motteram.  Each of these artists have produced an edition of prints for their printshare, as well as other printed works and artist’s books for sale.

*A print share is a project which entails each artist producing a set number of the same prints, otherwise known as an edition, large enough to share amongst the other participants. The print exchange is a great way for individual artists to see the work of others and to have their work seen by their peers. Also it is a good way to collect the work of other printmakers. As an end product, the group will also have produced a folio of diverse works which in itself is a collectable item and which may also act as a survey of contemporary printmaking, in this case, in the south west.

South West Printmakers anticipate that the exhibition at Mountford Gallery, running concurrently with the exhibition in Bunbury will have the potential to generate an interest and an appreciation of printmaking as an important, collectable artistic medium, to a wide public.
